Big Action Against 25-Year-Old Commercial Vehicles in J&K, FIRs to Be Filed

The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department has intensified its crackdown on commercial vehicles that have completed 25 years of service. Transport Commissioner J&K Vishesh Paul Mahajan has directed owners of such vehicles to voluntarily scrap them in accordance with the prescribed regulations.

In a post on X, Mahajan urged vehicle owners to comply with the age-limit rules and immediately remove overage commercial vehicles from operation. He said directions have been issued to field offices across Jammu and Kashmir to identify and take action against vehicles that have crossed the permissible age limit.

Officials have been instructed to seize such vehicles if found operating on public roads and initiate FIRs against those violating the regulations. The department said the enforcement drive is aimed at improving road safety and protecting commuters and other road users.

Transport authorities are expected to intensify inspections across the Union Territory to identify overage commercial vehicles and ensure their removal from active operation. Owners have been advised to comply with the norms to avoid seizure and legal action.
