The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has dismissed a petition seeking a fresh land acquisition award under the 2013 Act in the Akhnoor Bus Stand case.
Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has dismissed a petition seeking compensation under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, for 17 marlas of land acquired for the construction of the General Bus Stand in Akhnoor, holding that the acquisition, which was initiated under the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir Land Acquisition Act, could not be shifted midway to the Central law.
Justice M. A. Chowdhary, while pronouncing the judgment on November 3, 2026, said that the acquisition proceedings were completed under the law in force and the final compensation award was passed within the prescribed two-year period. The court also protected the petitioners' right to avail other statutory remedies with regard to the quantum of compensation.
