Leh violence: Cases against ten to be withdrawn

The Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Administration has approved the withdrawal of criminal cases against 10 individuals linked to the violence that erupted in Leh on September 24 last year, highlighting its continued focus on peace, reconciliation and social harmony in the Union Territory.

The approval was granted by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena following a recommendation from the Ladakh Police to withdraw the cases against the 10 individuals.

Announcing the decision, LG VK Saxena said the administration remains committed to fostering unity, healing and lasting peace in Ladakh. He stated that the decision would allow the individuals concerned to move forward with their lives and careers, while prioritising justice, recovery and reconciliation over prolonged litigation.

The decision comes against the backdrop of the September 24 violence in Leh, an incident that brought significant challenges for the region. The withdrawal of cases against the 10 individuals is aimed at opening avenues for reconciliation and strengthening the atmosphere of peace and social harmony in Ladakh.

LG Saxena also expressed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his sympathetic and sensitive approach towards the victims and their families.

The administration has emphasised that fostering unity and restoring harmony remain central to its efforts, with the latest decision expected to contribute to a renewed focus on healing and lasting peace across Ladakh.
